Duromax XP10000EH

Duromax XP10000EH

The Duromax Xp10000eh is the third entry from the Duromax E/EH series of portable generators. It claims to be usable anywhere, equipped to run on either gasoline or liquid propane no matter where you are.

Features & Benefits

There are numerous features and benefits that come along with the Duromax XP 10000EH.

Product Highlight

DuroMax XP10000EH

Electric Start Dual Fuel Portable

  • Starting – 10,000 W, Running – 8,000 W.
  • Dry Weight – 220 Pounds.
  • Tank Volume – 8.3 Gallons.
  • Runtime – 10 hrs at 50% load on Gasoline and 4.5 hrs at 50% load on 20 lbs Propane cylinder.

Power Output and Run Time

One of the highlights of the Duromax Xp10000eh is its power efficiency and performance. When using gasoline to power it, the Xp10000eh has a peak wattage of 10,0000 and a running wattage of 8,000. This wattage gives it a runtime of 22 hours at 25% load and 10 hours at 50%.

Propane as the fuel source gives it a peak wattage of 9,500 and a running wattage of 7,600. The lower wattage does impact its runtime, going from 22 hours to 17 at 25% load and 10 to 9 at 50%. This power efficiency has been a great help in providing plenty of power during power outages to necessary things like my fridge, microwave, and computer.

Outlets and Hook-Up Provisions

The Duromax Xp10000eh comes with five outlets for connectivity. These outlets are:

  • 1x 120/240V 50A Heavy Duty Outlet
  • 1x 120/240V 30A Twist Lock Outlet
  • 1x 120V 30A Twist Lock Outlet
  • 2x 120V 20A Household Outlets
  • 1x 12V DC Outlet

It also comes with DC cables in the box. While I don’t need to use the other outlets often besides the household and 120V 30A outlets, it’s still nice to have those other options if I need to do some yard work outside. This YouTube video shows what it looks like to hook up power cords.

Starting Options

The Duromax Xp10000eh has two starting types. It has a keyed electric ignition and an option for recoil start. It also has an idle control and an mx2 switch on the power panel. The idle control switch saves power while no load is applied by your power tools, which is nice. The mx2 switch is also great if you need the generator at 120V and 240V simultaneously or 120V only for full power.

It’s nice to have options, especially when I’m usually in different situations when I need power.

Portability

At max weight, with fuel added, the Duromax Xp10000eh gets up to 236 lbs. It has a width of 30 inches, a height of 26 inches, and a length of 29 inches. This makes it larger than most other portable generators.

Despite this, it’s easy to transport it from one place to another. It has two metal hub wheels, 10 inches in diameter, and a handle for portability. The wheels have good traction as well and can go over most terrain. This makes transportation uphill, downhill, and over rough terrain a cinch.

Other Features

There’s much more to love with the Duromax Xp10000eh.

Paralleling with Other Generators

The Duromax Xp10000eh shares some features with other portable generators, like the Duromax XP10000HX. The XP10000HX is a workhorse and takes some features from the Xp10000eh. Both portable generators share the main features of portability and dual-fuel technology.

Control Panel Features

On the control panel, the Duromax Xp10000eh has a multitude of useful features. We already covered the engine switch, idle control, and mx2 switch. It also has a recharge indicator, oil alert lamp, circuit breaker, voltmeter, and two AC breakers. The recharge indicator and voltmeter are nice additions that help monitor your system.

Security and Safety

For security and safety, the Duromax Xp10000eh has a lot to offer. On the control panel, there is an oil alert lamp that will keep you and the generator safe by alerting you when an overload or short circuit occurs. In the event of an overload or short circuit, there is a circuit breaker that can be pulled on the panel.

Emissions

The Duromax Xp10000eh is EPA and CARB certified, so if you are concerned about emissions no need to worry. It also has 50 state emissions, so it meets every state requirement for emissions in the United States. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it is 100% safe, you should always be careful when handling gas and generators, but it’s still nice to have.

Warranty

When you purchase a Duromax Xp10000eh, you will also get a 3-year warranty and a 1-year commercial warranty. The warranty does not cover repairs or returns when the fault is:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Installation use or maintenance services
  • Cosmetic defects
  • Accessories
  • Failures due to acts of God or natural disasters
  • Problems related to/from aftermarket or non-OEM parts

I think the warranty could be a bit longer, but it’s good enough to cover most uses. Please make sure you’re familiar with the warranties on any product you purchase.

What Other People Are Saying

I scoured the internet and found some user reviews that turned out to be quite positive.

One Amazon customer by the name of COAST1E discussed how they used the Duromax XP 10000 during Hurricane Irma in 2017, and it powered their whole house while the power was out. By the end of it, they had it running for 77 hours. They did stop it to refill it, of course!

Another anonymous Amazon reviewer stated how they were able to easily transport the Duromax from their house to a friend’s house in an emergency. This review highlights the handle, which makes the Duromax XP 10000 easy to move from place to place, even with its weight.

A review named Tim spoke about the Duromax XP 10000’s durability and quality. When he had received his order, he found the box pierced by a forklift! Upon inspecting the generator it was not damaged at all! After setting it up, he turned it on without any issue.

Three Alternatives

If you are not interested in the Duromax Xp10000eh, here are three products that will work as alternatives.

Cummins Onan 9500 Watt Portable Generator

The Cummins Onan portable generator weighs less than the Duromax one, weighing in at 194lbs. It’s just a little louder than the Xp10000eh with a decibel rating that goes as low as 74dB. It has electric and recoils starting like the Xp10000eh, but it also has remote starting. It has a runtime of 11 hours and 8 hours at 25% load. You’ll find that this generator costs about as much as the Duromax Xp10000eh.

Champion 100111 12000 Watt Portable Generator

The Champion 100111 portable generator costs about twice as much as the Duromax Xp10000eh. The Duromax generator wins on this one in terms of weight, with the champion generator weighing 329.6 lbs. It’s also louder than the Xp1000eh, with a decibel rating of 78dB. The great thing about this generator is that it has auto voltage regulation. It also has a 9-hour runtime at a 50% load.

Westinghouse 12,000 Watt Portable Generator

The Westinghouse 12,000 watt portable generator also costs twice as much as the Xp10000eh. This is heavier than the Xp10000eh, weighing in at 352 lbs. The Westinghouse generator has a low oil shutdown, smart idle control, and wireless remote start. At a 50% load, it has a runtime of 11 hours, beating the Xp10000eh’s.

Conclusion

The Duromax Xp10000eh gets the job done for all your power needs. Its easy portability and dual-fuel technology can do pretty much anything. While the other alternatives are great in their own right, I think the Xp10000eh is still king for its price point. Go to Duromax’s website to check the product out if you are interested.
